Buffalo Creek:  Millers to Baldy

This trail sits south of HWY 285 out of Denver, and 50 miles or so north of Woodland Park. The trail covers much of the old burn areas from two major forest fires. The last one was the Hayman fire which burned 138,000 acres and 132 homes. Still, this ride provides some great forested areas where weren't lost. It is definitely worth the trip for a ride.

Getting There

  • From Denver take HWY 285 to Pine Junction.
  • Go south on HWY 126 to Buffalo Creek Ranger Station.
  • Park on the East side of the road.
  • From Woodland Park take HWY 67 north to HWY 126.
  • Park on the East side of the road at the Buffalo Creek Ranger Station.

Trail Description

Park at the ranger station and go north about 200 ft till you can go left on the next road. Take the road west past vacation homes, and trail heads on your right. Take the road until you see the first trailhead on your right.  This will take you along the road and through trees and a stream crossing until you head up into the burn area.  Ride through until you get to the Miller's Gulch turnoff on your left.  Ride up the fire road until you see another left.  Take the single-track up and take your first left down Mt. Baldy Trail.  This is a great downhill, with a lot of turns, and twists!  You will drop out at the road.  Take it down, or choose another trail, and spend your day exploring.
