Ride From Hell
This ride starts at Lovell Gultch and either ends up at the Quaker Ridge Camp entrance, or you can do it as a lop which cuts out the last downhill through Quaker Ridge, but eliminates a return trip on the bike trail. This trail is called Ride From Hell for a reason. You make three major climbs and then descend back down below where you started, just to climb back up again. It's a great ride, but it can take the best out of anyone.
Getting There
- Take HWY 24 out of Colorado Springs to Woodland Park.
- Turn Right at the McDonald's. This is Rampart Range Road.
- Go through the four way stops past the schools until you see the Lovell Gultch parking area on your left.
Trail Description
Following the track is amost the bet bet here. There are so many tiwsts and turns on this ride, with hidden trail heads that it is very difficult to follow by description. However, I will try to give some insight here. Take a right after the gate in Lovell Gultch. Ride the main trail up until you take a down to the stream crossing, and then go right. Follow the trail until it forks. You can take either fork, you will end up on Rampart Range Road. Go left on Rampart and ride about 1/2 mile until you can merge back into the woods onto a definate single-track. Take the track down until you get to another major stream crossing. Follow the stream right. It is pretty dense coverage here, but it opens up after about 50 ft. Ride the trail up until you reach a jeep trail. Take the jeep trail right, looking for another slight single-track on your left after a curve on the jeep trail. This downhill follows a stream until you reach a fenced corner on private property. Ride the slight up and down around the property until you are forced to start riding up again. Ride up to the saddle and go left. This will take you up another climb and then you will be riding a rocky technical down back into dense woods. Go left through a small clearing where the trail opens up again. You will come to private property again. Go right and follow the trail up over the hill on your left. Do not ride up the middle of the ravine. This takes you into more private property. Go up the hill until you see the fence again. Follow along the fenced property staying close until you pass a house on your left. Climb into Quaker camp property and then take the downhill to the road, and onto HWY 67. Follow the bike trail South (UP) back to Woodland Park. When you get to the intersection where Tamarc Business Park is on your right, go left. This is Apache Trail. Ride Apache up and around the curve until you see an opening at a fence to a single track. Take this single track to another road and go left onto another track keeping high and going right when the trail gets to a T. This takes you back to the parking lot.
