Hartman's Rocks
Hartman's Rocks lies south of the Gunnison Airport. This is a great place to ride during the colder months as it is a high plains desert. The area has many trails, and used to be open to motorcyclists, but for the most part has been closed to them due to the damage caused by a few inconsiderate riders. Still, the place offers some challenging riding, and gives a great option when the snow still lies in the mountains.
Getting There
- Go west on HWY 50 toward the Gunnison Airport.
- Take the left toward the airport and drive past the cattle areas till you see the parking area. There will be signs along the way.
Trail Description
There are many trails to take. Following the .gpx track will take you through many technical and sandy sections. Take lots of water with you. It is very dry, and there is nothing around other than dirt and rocks. Also take notice that it is also open grazing land for many of the local ranchers. Don't chase the cows. The bulls won't like it.
