Boreas Pass
Boreas Pass runs from just east of Fairplay Colorado to Breckenridge. It is an old mining and railroad pass that provides a scenic option to driving along HWY 9. In addition, there are plenty of trails and old mining camps to visit in the area.
Getting There
- Take HWY 285 to Como (Northeast of Fairplay).
- Go North on Boreas Pass road till you get to a dirt trail head. You will pass mining museums and old water tanks on the way.
Trail Description
This trail provides some challenging climbs and descents. When you reach the trail head, you will climb for a few miles through old mining communities. When you reach the very top of the trail, you will head down a steep downhill back to the water tank you passed on the way to the trail head. There is a lot to see on this ride. Take a camera. You will learn a little history, and be blessed with the beauty of the country side.
