Buckhorn to Seven Bridges
This is one of my favorite rides in Colorado Springs. That is mostly due to the brag factor. Not many people can ride this trail, and it's one of the rare trails that I would truly classify as Black. If you have skills, this is a good ride. If your skills, the downhill will be a nice two mile walk for you.
Getting There:
- HWY 24 to 21st Street and go South
- Take a right on Lower Goldcamp Road
- Turn left at the 4 way stop on Bear Creek Road
- Turn left at the next stop sign onto Goldcamp Road
- Drive all the way till you hit gravel.
- Drive onto the gravel and keep going. You will pass through two tunnels.
- Look for the large parking area on your right. If you hit pavement again, you have gone too far.
- The closed road is at the back of the parking lot. The closed gate at the front of the parking log is High Drive. That's the wrong way for this route.
Description
This ride begins rather innocuously. You begin by riding up the close part of Goldcamp Road. It's a pretty straight shot to Buckhorn trail head. Once you pass an old park sign which is basically two steel posts look right for the trail head. If you curve around to your left, you've gone too far. Also, you will see the bottom of Seven Bridges. You can ride this up. It is doable, but it's a very hard ride and a lot of carrying will be involved. Buckhorn up is a much better option.
With that said, take a right on Buckhorn. This climbs for a few miles. At the saddle, go left. Ride up till you reach an intersection with several trails. From there, take the left most trail down and stay left till the trail opens up into the valley. This is Seven Bridges. From here, hold on to your butt! It's a VERY technical downhill, with seven (you guessed it) bridges that cross the stream in various places. If you can ride the whole thing without dabbing, call me. I want to be impressed! This track also has a little extra climb up the old Jones park trail. That part has been rerouted, and is no longer accessible. However, you can still get to Jones, or now even climb up to Barr trail.
