Rampart Range Rd/Williams Canyon/Waldo Canyon/Ute Indian Trail

This links many trails on the front range for one heck of a two hour ride. It has great views of the city as well as the mountains and the canyons you will traverse. The trail shows what millions of years of erosion, forest fires, and land movement have done. And when you get into Williams Canyon, you will be amazed at the difference a fire can make.  It's a great ride, and still a personal favorite.

Getting There

  • Take I 25 to the HWY 24 exit.
  • Go west to Memorial Park in Manitou Springs.
  • Park at Memorial Park.

Trail Description

This ride begins with a short one or two miles of paved road into Garden of the God's park. You will start your climb there and pass balancing rock. From there you take a left onto Rampart Range Road. The road climbs for five miles till you get to the old shooting range. Just before the range you will have a left into a single track trail. Head down the trail over some chunky rocks.  It's a little overgrown after the fires.  On the trail, look to your right when a steep valley opens.  At about 4.5 miles into the ride, you will look right.  That is a hike a bike to Waldo Canyon.  From Waldo you will head through climbs and descents till you reach HWY 24. In all the trails the terrain is rocky and slick, which is the standard for front range riding. Cross HWY 24 and go over, around, or through the gate on the other side of the highway. Climb Longs Ranch Road to your first left. Follow the Ute Indian Trail back into Manitou. Stop at a local business and get some food. You'll need. it.
