Reno Flag Bear Deadmans

This trail is up Cement Creek between Crested Butte and Almont.  I have to say this is one of the better rides in the Crested Butte area.  Many of the rides around there are jeep trails, and short single-tracks, but this one has one long climb up a dirt road, and the rest is single-track.  Be prepared for three long ups, and killer downs.  This trail does not dissappoint.

Getting There

  • Take 135 North toward Crested Butte.
  • Turn East onto Cement Creek road (near CB South).
  • Drive up the road a few miles until you see the parking on your right for Deadmans

Trail Description

Head out of the Deadmans parking area and ride Cement Creek up for about six miles to the top of Reno.  You will see a definate single-track on your right after a switchback, this will cut off some of the road, and a descent and climb.  Your first climb will take up to a clearing at around 11,100ft.  From here head through the fence and take the Flag Creek trail down for about two miles...yes...two mile downhill.  When you come to the intersection, take the trail down to the creek, rather than continuing on Flag.  This will take you to Bear Creek trail.  You will start climbing again on single-track before getting another long downhill.  At the trail intersection, go right.  This takes you up to Deadmans.  The last part of the climb on Deadmans is a killer, but the payoff back down the the parking area is more than worth it.  This is a 3 to 5 hour ride depending on ability.  It took me four hours with stops to take pictures, and consider my sanity.
