Lovell Gultch to Rampart Reservior

This is an almost 30 mile loop to Rampart Reservior from Lovell Gultch trail system.  Most people are not aware of Lovell Gultch but they pass it every time they head to Rampart.  They must be excited to get there.  The Lovell trail system can actually take you amost to Denver.  But this track takes you East to Rampart.

Getting There

  • Take HWY 24 out of Colorado Springs to Woodland Park.
  • Turn Right at the McDonald's. This is Rampart Range Road.
  • Go through the four way stops and up the road past the schools till you reach the City Works department on your left.

Trail Description

This is a killer ride.  You start the ride from the parking lot, heading into Lovell Gultch.  Take the main trail all the way to the stream.  Cross and go right.  Follow the trail east until you reach a fork.  From here you can take either fork, but the left one leads directly to the road where you need to cross.  Cross the road and ride under the powerline.  The trail gets a little overgrown here, but keep staying near the stream and you will be fine.  The trail will open to a dual track.  Follow the track downhill until you get to a large intersection.  Go right.  This will lead you up a jeep road until you reach the end.  Ride downhill.  Once you get back to the stream cross where you see the No Motor Vehicles sign.  Ride this trail up.  The terrain changes a lot from dual to single-track, and most is very overgrown.  When you get to the top of a very technical climb go right.  This road will take you to Shubarth Road.  Go left and ride until you reach a gate on your right.  Go past the gate and head out toward the Reserviour.  Follow the track here taking a right turn and then somewhat of a hidden left.  If you miss the turn, you will still end up at the lake, but the downhill won't be as fun.  Ride around Rampart, and follow your track back.  29.9 miles of fun in the sun!
