Edge Cutoff and Joes Ridge

Fruita offers some great rides. If it were not for the fact that there are no trees on some of the trails, it would be the perfect mecca. The trails are like glass for the most part, unlike Crested Butte. And unlike the Colorado Springs area, they are made up of dirt rather than crushed granite. Make sure you ride this trail on a calm day. The dust from high winds could be murderous.

Getting There

  • Take I 70 to Fruita.
  • Go North on Cherry (this heads away from the hotels toward town).
  • Take your first right (Aspen) at the intersection.
  • Go around the traffic circle and through downtown.
  • Take a left on Maple.
  • Maple turns into 17 1/2 road outside town.
  • Turn Right on N 3/10.  This is the last turn BEFORE a left hand curve.
  • Turn left at the T.  This is 18 1/2 road.
  • Drive till you see a nice parking area and bathrooms on your left.  There is also camping up this road.

Trail Description

If you follow the track, you will head northeast on the single track across the road from the parking area.  Stay on the main trail across the flats until you get to a defined jeep road.  Head toward the bluff until you see the Edge Trail on your left.  Follow the trail until you reach Joes at the end.  From here, go left again and follow the track back to the parking area.
