Buffalo Creek

This trail sits south of HWY 285 out of Denver, and 50 miles or so north of Woodland Park. The trail covers much of the old burn areas from two major forest fires. The last one was the Hayman fire which burned 138,000 acres and 132 homes. Still, this ride provides some great forested areas where weren't lost. It is definitely worth the trip for a ride.

Getting There

  • From Denver take HWY 285 to Pine Junction.
  • Go south on HWY 126 to Buffalo Creek Ranger Station.
  • Park on the East side of the road.
  • From Woodland Park take HWY 67 north to HWY 126.
  • Park on the East side of the road at the Buffalo Creek Ranger Station.

Trail Description

Park at the ranger station and go north about 200 ft till you can go left on the next road. Take the road west past vacation homes, and trail heads on your right. The road will climb till you reach a single track at the end. Climb up the single track through the old burn area where you will see directly what happens when people are careless. After you climb to the top you will single track descend into forested areas where the trees are unharmed. The trail will wind through old many climbs and descents till you reach a parking area and finally a road. Take a right on the road toward the wood mill. Go left on an old forestry road till you reach the next trail head on your right. This will take you through more rolling climbs and descents till you head back to the road. There are many riding options in Buffalo Creek, and only one loop is provided here. Check out some of the other trails, and use the .gpx as a starting point.
