One of the areas favorite places to ride are the trails below Mt Herman.  This is a popular route that adds a climb up near Mt Herman trail above Limbaugh Canyon.  This is a short loop, but the route is a lot of work and a lot of fun!

Getting There

  • Take HWY 25 to HWY 105 exit in Monument Colorado
  • Go West and head straight through the middle of Downtown Monument.
  • Go left at the T-Intersection
  • Go right on Mt Herman Road.
  • When the road turns to dirt go right and park at the dirt lot to start this ride.

Trail Description

This trail starts at our old house, so follow the directions from above.  If you end up at the house the people living there now, might not be too happy about it.  Heading from the parking lot, climb southwest up the hill.  The climb is about three miles before you get to the Mt Herman trailhead.  Head up the single-track.  When you get to the turn to head up to Mt Herman, stay straight.  Keep climbing north up the single track.  Once at the top go right.  Follow the trail till you get to the VERY technical downhill.  Once you get down to the main trail go right.  You will come out of the woods to a great view of Palmer Lake.  Ride down the hill till you see the slight up on your right.  Follow this trail till you get back to where you parked.  There's a LOT of climbing back out of this canyon before you get back to your car so be prepared.
