Mule Creek

Mule Creek is a little known mountain bike/motorcycle trail on the west side of Woodland Park.  It is part of the Signal Peak trail system which is maintianed by motorcyclists.  However, a couple of the downhills provide some great riding for the avid pedaler.

Getting There

  • Take HWY 24 through Woodland Park.
  • Take a right on Trout Creek Road which is the first left at the light just after town, and before Blue Bird hill.

Trail Description

This is a point to point ride, or you can ride back up the trail, or make it a loop.  A good place to park is right at the intersection of Trout Creek, and HWY 24 and then ride in.  There's no parking at the top of this trail.  This track starts right after the gate for some private land.  Go past the No Tresspassing signs, and take the right up the single track.  You can enter here.  The trail will climb through a clear cut area.  Keep looking right as you near the top for the trail.  It  can be hidden by dead fall.  Head down and the trail will open up again, leading you up and around to an old Spanish style stable building.  The local legand is that it was a cat house.  However, it was most likely a stable.  Ride past the building and you will come to two chimneys of a house that burned to the foundation.  Go right and then when you get to the powerline go straight.  This will take you to a long downhill.  Use the track to show you where to turn.  There is a hidden trial in the trees where you will go right.  It is marked by a strangely shaped rock.  Head down and onto the main trail.  From here you will hit stream crossings, and roads until you end up at the bottom of Red Rock Park.  Head right on the trail or road, and then take a right across HWY 24 on the bike trail and ride back to your car.
